Being an entrepreneur with ADHD can be challenging, but having a strong support system can make all the difference. I say this from two angles – of someone who has ADHD and supports other entrepreneurs and someone who has ADHD and is an entrepreneur myself.
Building a support system that understands and supports your unique needs can help you manage your symptoms, stay motivated, and achieve your business goals.
It might be that you already know what works for you meaning you know exactly who you need to do what but sometimes that’s the hardest bit!
In this blog post, we will discuss how to build a strong support system as an entrepreneur with ADHD.
- Find a Mentor
- Having a mentor who understands the challenges of entrepreneurship and ADHD can be invaluable. Look for someone who has experience in your field and can offer guidance, advice, and support as you navigate the ups and downs of running a business.
- Join a Support Group
- When I say ‘support group’ I’m referring to a membership, a society similar to my own Systems Society, a mastermind. joining a support group can provide you with a network of individuals who are going through similar experiences. It can be really helpful to connect with others who understand the challenges of ADHD and can offer support and advice. You may even find support groups in your local community too.
- Communicate with Your Friends and Family.
- Communicating with your friends and family about your ADHD can help them understand your needs and provide you with the support you need. They can offer encouragement, help you stay on track with your goals, and provide a listening ear when you need to talk.
- Hire an ADHD Coach or Mentor (depending on your needs).
- An ADHD coach can help you develop strategies and techniques to manage your symptoms, stay focused, and achieve your business goals. A mentor or consultant, like myself, can support you with implementation and tools of strategies that are going to support you, your brain and your business.
- Prioritise Self-Care.
- As an entrepreneur with ADHD, it’s important to prioritise self-care to manage your symptoms and maintain your overall well-being. It might not be a priority for you right now (I find this hard too!) but when you feel things slipping – that’s the time you really need to start thinking about you. Make sure you are getting enough sleep, eating well, and engaging in regular exercise. Taking care of yourself will help you stay focused and energized, and it will also help you build resilience in the face of challenges.
In conclusion, building a strong support system is crucial for entrepreneurs with ADHD.
By finding a mentor, joining a support group, communicating with your friends and family, hiring an ADHD coach, and prioritising self-care, you can create a support system that meets your unique needs and helps you achieve your business goals.
Remember, you don’t have to do it alone, and seeking support is a sign of strength. With the right support system, you can overcome your challenges and thrive in your business venture.
