There are two types of people in the world. The first kind is those who have a mindset that think money comes easy to everyone but them, or in other words, only lucky ones can attract money and wealth. While others believe that money is only earned with hard work, dedication, struggle, and skills.
Those in the former category may have formed this opinion after trying really hard themselves, or perhaps after watching money coming easily to some people. If you are in this category, here’s a wrecking ball of truth for you – you likely don’t have the money mindset that is required to be successful.
Consequently, you’re giving up too soon or don’t see the other side of the coin – the actual struggles of those who you consider ‘lucky.’
Trust me when I say this, your mindset matters a lot in business.
You don’t have to let your notion about money limit you. In fact, here’s a secret – if you want to make a change, start with your mindset.
Likewise, if you want to be financially successful, start with a money mindset shift.
The money mindset shifts you need to make in 2022
So here are 4 important money mindset shifts to change your life:
You’re not greedy for wanting to earn more money.
We know greed is one of the seven sins, but to want to earn money is not being greedy, instead, it’s being ambitious. There might be a thin line between being greedy and ambitious, but it’s still there. In fact, being greedy is doing the following things.
- When you are not appreciating and being grateful for what you have, and what you have earned.
- When you only want to earn money for yourself, not others.
- When money is your first thought the moment an opportunity presents itself. You would not think about growth, dreams, becoming a better version of yourself.
- When you’re ready to break rules and hurt sentiments for the sake of money.
If you don’t find yourself doing these things, be assured that you are only wanting to have a comfortable future for yourself, your family, your loved ones, and society.
It’s nothing to be guilty about instead, it’s something you should be proud of.
Remove ‘I can’t afford’ from your vocabulary.
The spending comes with fear. You might want something, but you put away your desires thinking you cannot afford such things and experiences. Although it’s quite natural to feel this way for when you have a thousand bills to pay, and important expenses to incur. But take a moment to perceive this point differently. What if your, “I can’t afford it” mindset is limiting you.
Now, I am not trying to say that you have to spend lavishly beyond your means every single time. FOMO is something I’ve really had to hone in over the last few years.
Instead, my point is, these four words you say to yourself might be saving you money, but they are limiting you from earning more.
View it as positive encouragement. By thinking you cannot afford something, you’re not going out of your comfort zone to get what you want.
Besides, when you are working hard all month long, you are entitled to things you desire – even if they can be a little out of your budget.
Have money dates – show appreciation towards money.
“You value something when it’s gone.” – the bitter and sad truth about life. Now, this goes without saying – we must appreciate what we have. This includes money.
If you have money and are doing well, show some appreciation. Appreciate money by valuing it.
Understand that money is important, and not everyone has it. One has to work hard enough to get money – it doesn’t come easy. You can do so by having money dates.
Money dates are regular monitoring of your finances, which can help you access not only your budgets, income, and expenditure but your relationship with money – as to how you perceive money, how you spend it, and where you spend it while discerning the value and importance of the same.
Stop talking negatively about money
As mentioned before, your money mindset matters a lot. You have to start thinking positively– even about money.
Just so you know, negativity is the birth of a toxic mind. In this context, negative perceptions about money can not only limit you but stop you from appreciating money. So, it’s time you abandon mindsets like these:
“Money can’t buy happiness.” (But money can help you find happiness and peace)
“Money is the root of all evil.” (It’s not if you have a positive relationship with money)
“Money comes to those who are lucky.” (Even the lucky ones worked for it.)
“I’d rather be poor and happy, than being rich and sad.” (When you are sweating out, working multiple shifts to get rid of poverty, it’s not happiness.)
